Dion Paridaens, M.D., Ph.D.
Studies and Research
Dion Paridaens was born in Holland and is the head of the oculoplastic unit of the Oogziekenhuis Rotterdam, the largest eye hospital in the Netherlands. He also works as a consultant surgeon for ELZA and has been operating in Switzerland on a regular basis for more than 10 years.
Eyelids: Cosmetic surgeries of upper and lower lids, ptosis surgery, eyelid malposition surgery, reconstructive surgery of eyelid tumors.
Lacrimal (tear duct) surgery: whole spectrum.
Orbital surgery: e.g. in hyperthyreosis in Grave’s disease, exophthalmos and in tumors of the orbit.
Dr. Paridaens received his clinical subspecialty training in the Netherlands and in Canada. Dr. Paridaens is the head of the oculoplastic and orbital unit of the Oogziekenhuis Rotterdam since 1996. Since 2001, he offers a fellowship program in lacrimal- and lid-surgery and educates young surgeons in this subspecialty.
Predominantly, Dr. Paridaens works in cosmetic and reconstructive lid surgery, lacrimal surgery and orbital surgery.
Dr. Paridaens is co-founder of the Thyroid Center Rotterdam and he also is the Scientific Secretary of ESOPRS (European Society of Ophthalmic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery) since 2014.
Publications, International Activities
Dr. Paridaens wrote his medical thesis from 1990 to 1992 at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London on the topic “Uveal Melanoma”. He has so far published more than 100 scientific publications in international journals with peer-review (as per 2016). From 1999 to 2013, Dr. Paridaens was the editor-in-chief of ORBIT (International Journal on Orbital Disorders, Oculoplastic and Lacrimal Surgery).
