This article shines a light on attempts that were made in the past years to reshape the cornea using various non-surgical techniques and then….to “freeze” that shape using cross-linking. Techniques include thermal keratoplasty (Keraflex©), conductive keratoplasty, and orthokeratology (contact lenses overnight).
Although all techniques to reshape the cornea managed to “force” the cornea into a new shape and increased visual acuity, the effect is unfortunately only transitory, even in combination with additional cross-linking. Read here.
