POWER LIST 2023. Who is the best eye doctor in Zurich? Who is the best eye doctor in Switzerland? In the world? It’s not easy to answer these questions objectively. But if you asked eye doctors who they think are the best, you get an international list of highly renowned eye doctors. One publication, The Ophthalmologist, did exactly that, and it is called the Power List.
The ELZA Institute is proud to announce that Prof. Farhad Hafezi has been included in “The Ophthalmologist Power List” for the fifth time. This esteemed list honours the 100 most influential and innovative individuals in the field of ophthalmology. Prof. Hafezi is lauded for his role in eye laser surgery and as a pioneer of cross-linking technology, and was previously included in the Power List in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020. In total, only six Swiss ophthalmologists have been featured on the list, with three of them working at the ELZA Institute.
As the only practicing Swiss ophthalmologist to be included five times in the prestigious Power List, Prof. Hafezi has made a significant impact on the field with his remarkable achievements. His extensive and groundbreaking work includes the development of new cross-linking techniques for the treatment of keratoconus and corneal ulcers, as well as the development of innovative applications of excimer laser technology in refractive laser surgery.
Raised in Fribourg and residing in Baar, Prof. Hafezi is the co-founder and medical director of the ELZA Institute in Dietikon and also leads a research laboratory at the CABMM of the University of Zurich. Prof. Hafezi holds the title of Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, Associate Professor at the University of Southern California Los Angeles, USA, and Visiting Professor at the Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou, China. Additionally, he is a co-founder of the Light for Sight Foundation, which aims to prevent avoidable blindness in children and adolescents by promoting keratoconus screening and treatment.
