Muitas vezes, a doen\u00e7a n\u00e3o \u00e9 detectada durante muito tempo e pode levar \u00e0 cegueira numa fase posterior. As crian\u00e7as e os adolescentes est\u00e3o em maior risco, uma vez que a doen\u00e7a \u00e9 mais agressiva nestes grupos et\u00e1rios.<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/lightforsight.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A funda\u00e7\u00e3o Light for Sight<\/a> une atualmente mais de 25 pa\u00edses na luta contra o ceratocone.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2f9396a e-flex e-con-boxed e-con do LightforSight \u00e9 eliminar a cegueira evit\u00e1vel em crian\u00e7as e adolescentes com ceratocone.<\/p><p>Este objetivo deve ser alcan\u00e7ado da seguinte forma:<\/p><ul><li>Sensibilizar as pessoas afectadas e as suas fam\u00edlias para a doen\u00e7a do ceratocone<\/li><li>Sensibilizar os profissionais de sa\u00fade para a rela\u00e7\u00e3o entre o ceratocone e a idade do adolescente<\/li><li>Estabelecer ac\u00e7\u00f5es de rastreio e centros de compet\u00eancia<\/li><li>Apoio financeiro para cobrir os custos do tratamento, se necess\u00e1rio<\/li><li>Apoio a projectos crian\u00e7as e adolescentes com s\u00edndrome de Down (trissomia 21) correm um risco elevado de desenvolver ceratocone<\/p><p>Antes do aparecimento da tecnologia cross-linking, a \u00fanica op\u00e7\u00e3o de tratamento era o transplante de c\u00f3rnea. No entanto, este \u00e9 um risco particular, especialmente em pessoas com s\u00edndrome de Down, uma vez que muitos doentes esfregam os olhos com muita frequ\u00eancia, o que pode levar a uma hemorragia das suturas do enxerto e \u00e0 perda da c\u00f3rnea e do olho<\/p><p>A melhor forma de tratar esta doen\u00e7a em pessoas com s\u00edndrome de Down \u00e9 a dete\u00e7\u00e3o precoce. O objetivo da iniciativa \u00e9 fornecer a todos os oftalmologistas informa\u00e7\u00f5es cruzadas sobre a doen\u00e7a e as op\u00e7\u00f5es de tratamento, bem como incentivar os pais a submeterem os seus filhos, especialmente as crian\u00e7as com s\u00edndrome de Down, a um exame. Por \u00faltimo, mas n\u00e3o menos importante, todos os outros profissionais m\u00e9dicos envolvidos no tratamento de pessoas com s\u00edndroma de Down, como os m\u00e9dicos de cl\u00ednica geral e
