O dia 12 de agosto de 2023 foi um dia importante no dom\u00ednio da oftalmologia - e tamb\u00e9m do servi\u00e7o comunit\u00e1rio - em Tashkent, no Uzbequist\u00e3o. A espa\u00e7osa Humo Arena encheu-se de 113 fam\u00edlias, todas elas com crian\u00e7as com s\u00edndrome de Down. Destas, 63 crian\u00e7as cumpriam os crit\u00e9rios de idade e foram submetidas a um rastreio de ceratocone.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

O evento foi liderado pelo indom\u00e1vel\u00a0Nikki Hafezi, Diretor Executivo do Instituto ELZA<\/a>. Sob a sua supervis\u00e3o, o evento revelou-se um grande sucesso, tendo sido identificados 13 casos suspeitos de ceratocone.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Ceratocone<\/a> destaca-se como a principal causa de cegueira evit\u00e1vel em crian\u00e7as e adolescentes. Come\u00e7a por ser um enfraquecimento da c\u00f3rnea, que depois provoca o desenvolvimento de uma sali\u00eancia em forma de cone. Isto faz com que a vis\u00e3o se torne m\u00edope, com mais astigmatismo. \u00c0 medida que a doen\u00e7a progride, a vis\u00e3o piora e come\u00e7am a surgir outros problemas de vis\u00e3o, como vis\u00e3o dupla ou tripla, fantasmas e desfocagem.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Tratamento com reticula\u00e7\u00e3o da c\u00f3rnea<\/a> normalmente impede a progress\u00e3o da doen\u00e7a, mas normalmente n\u00e3o recupera a vis\u00e3o perdida. Por isso, \u00e9 crucial detetar e tratar o ceratocone precocemente para salvar a vis\u00e3o destas crian\u00e7as.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

As crian\u00e7as com s\u00edndrome de Down t\u00eam um risco muito elevado de desenvolver ceratocone, raz\u00e3o pela qual este evento de rastreio se centra nas crian\u00e7as com s\u00edndrome de Down. <\/span><\/p>\n
