At the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) 2025 in Orlando, Dr. Emilio A. Torres-Netto, MD, PhD, FEBO, FWCRS contributed to the instruction course, “What’s New in the Surgical Treatment of Keratoconus”. The advanced program reviewed current surgical algorithms for visual rehabilitation in keratoconus with emphasis on evidence-based patient selection and outcomes.
The faculty panel, led by Senior Instructor Uri Soiberman, MD, included Soosan Jacob, MBBS, FRCS; Leonardo Torquetti, MD; Emilio A. Torres-Netto, MD, PhD, FEBO; and Jimmy Y. Hu, MD. Using a case-based format, the session examined indications and results for corneal implants, corneal cross-linking (CXL) combined with refractive procedures, and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty in moderate to severe disease.
Dr. Torres-Netto discussed advances in CXL and personalized rehabilitation strategies, including ELZA-PACE CXL as a second-generation, topography-guided approach designed to enhance biomechanical efficacy while preserving epithelial integrity in selected zones. These developments aim to expand treatment eligibility and optimize visual quality in progressive ectasia.
