Being a member of a scientific journal’s Editorial Board is an important responsibility. The journal places a lot of trust in board members. They determine the journal’s editorial focus and play a central role in reviewing the manuscripts clinicians and researchers submit to those publications. In other words, they set the tone, and they see the future.

ELZA’s Medical Director, Prof. Farhad Hafezi, MD, PhD, FARVO, has recently been made an Editorial Board member of two more prestigious peer-reviewed journals: the European Journal of Ophthalmology, and BMC Ophthalmology.

These appointments are in addition to the editorial board positions he holds or has held in the Journal of Refractive Surgery, Current Eye Research, the International Journal of Keratoconus and Ectatic Corneal Diseases, the Journal of Ophthalmic Vision Research, Translational Vision Science & Technology, and Eye and Vision.

Prof. Hafezi also performs peer review for a number of other high-ranking ophthalmology journals, including Ophthalmology, the American Journal of Ophthalmology, the British Journal of Ophthalmology, and Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, and reviews submissions to the Swiss National Foundation.

On top of that, Prof. Hafezi is also an Editorial Board member of two non-peer-reviewed journals, Ocular Surgery News, and Ophta, as well as a number of trade journals, including Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today Europe, Ophthalmology Times Europe and The Ophthalmologist.

Furthermore, Prof. Hafezi sits on the Advisory Boards of  SwissMedic as an Expert for Ophthalmology (Human Medicine External Committee), and the International Advisory Board, Middle Eastern African Journal of Ophthalmology (MEAJO), and between 2013 and 2017, was also a member of the Global ONE Advisory Board (Educational Network), for American Academy of Ophthalmology.
