Prof. Farhad Hafezi was recently profiled in the Swiss newspaper, Limmattaler Zeitung, in which he discussed everything from his pioneering research into corneal cross-linking (CXL), how he has spent the last two decades improving CXL to better treat not just keratoconus, but infections of the cornea too – in a way that doesn’t require antibiotics or antifungal drugs to kill the infectious organisms.
The article mentions Prof. Hafezi’s achievements and awards but focuses mainly on how the ELZA Institute attracts medical tourists – people who fly in from around the world for treatment by the world experts who treat patients at ELZA – but also serves the needs of the local population in the Limmattal region. Prof. Hafezi also talked about the medical device, C-eye, that he and his wife, Nikki Hafezi, have developed and brought to market, and how this portable cross-linking device will bring much-needed CXL technology to patients across the world.
