Today at ESCRS 2022 in Milan, ELZA’s surgeons and researchers started the day with an early morning session. Both Prof. Hafezi and Nikki Hafezi presented on “SMART: Simple, Mobile, Affordable & Reliable Technology for LMICs” in the “Digital Medicine – 6 steps for a better future” session. Here, they gave an overview of their work to bring irregular cornea/ corneal ectasia screening to low to middle-income countries by using smartphone-basked keratometry, and how the impact of portable screening and portable treatment of ectasias can make on the populations in these countries. In effect, these technologies bring screening and treatment to people who would almost certainly never have received it otherwise.
Early in the afternoon, our Consultant Cornea surgeon, Dr. Lamis Baydoun, presented her work “Astigmatism and Cataract Management Options After Corneal Transplantation”. In the evening, Prof. Kaweh Mansouri gave two lectures in the session “Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery: time to shine”, to a lecture theater full of delegates.
To top of the list of achievements, ELZA postdoctoral researcher, Nan-Ji Lu, was awarded the Best Poster (Refractive) prize.
