The 21st International SCHWIND User Meeting took place in Bangkok, Thailand, from October 30 to November 1, 2025, at The Peninsula Bangkok. Over 200 surgeons from 55 countries came together to share experiences, discuss new data, and explore the latest SCHWIND laser technologies.

The ELZA Institute was represented by CEO Nikki HafeziChief Medical Officer Prof. Farhad Hafezi, and Corneal, Cataract and Refractive Surgeon Dr. Emilio A. Torres-Netto, with the latter two contributing to the scientific program, presenting results and perspectives from ELZA’s work in corneal and refractive surgery.

Much of the meeting focused on the femtosecond laser, especially its SmartSight lenticule extraction and flap-creation applications.

Several surgeons presented clinical results and case series showing strong visual and biomechanical outcomes.
In hands-on wet-lab sessions, participants practiced the ATOS procedure on porcine corneas, gaining direct experience with the system’s precision and workflow.

Diagnostic imaging and individualized treatments were also key themes. The MS-39 spectral-domain OCT drew attention for its ability to separate epithelial and stromal layers – important for customized transepithelial ablations, keratoconus screening, and postoperative assessment.

Sessions on personalized treatments with the SCHWIND AMARIS laser highlighted wavefront-guided ablation strategies for TransPRK, therapeutic surface ablation, and presbyopic correction.

The atmosphere throughout the meeting was open and collaborative, reflecting the strong sense of community within the SCHWIND user family. SCHWIND CEO Domenic von Planta underlined the company’s focus on innovation built on close dialogue with clinicians worldwide.

For the ELZA Institute, the SCHWIND User Meeting 2025 was an opportunity to share its experience in advanced refractive and therapeutic laser surgery and to contribute to the ongoing exchange shaping the future of the field.
