The ELZA Institute hosted a highly anticipated educational event and Apéro Riche for Swiss optometrists on June 5, 2023, setting the stage for an enlightening evening of learning and networking. The event took place at the AMAG (thesquare) in the Zurich Airport’s The Circle, making for a unique and sophisticated setting. Attendees earned an SBAO/SSOO point, as part of their professional development.
The evening was centered around a trio of 15-minute presentations. Prof. Farhad Hafezi introduced two revolutionary treatments developed by ELZA, PACE and STARK, while Dr. Emilio Torres-Netto shared best practices for cataract surgery in keratoconus.
PACE, or PTK-assisted customized epi-on CXL, is a second-generation customized cross-linking treatment that selectively flattens the steepest area of the keratoconus. The PACE technique promises faster and more precise results, marking a significant step forward in keratoconus treatment.
STARK, on the other hand, presents a novel approach to radial keratotomy. This groundbreaking method restores the cornea’s natural curvature, significantly improving patients’ visual quality while addressing complications from traditional RK procedures.
In his presentation, Dr. Emilio Torres-Netto provided invaluable insights on cataract surgery in keratoconus. He detailed the nuances of biometry, IOL calculation formulae, and the surgeon’s role during the procedure. His advice is set to ensure optimal outcomes and enhance patient satisfaction.
For those who couldn’t attend or want to know more about ELZA, its surgeons, and its competencies, we encourage you to browse our website or view our brochure.
