Our Chief Executive Officer, Nikki Hafezi MAS IP ETHZ, last week gave a guest lecture at the Pompea College of Business at the University of New Haven, Connecticut, USA.
Postgraduate students currently studying the fundamentals of Multinational Management were able to benefit from Mrs. Hafezi’s experience across several sectors of business, including the medical device firm, EMAGine AG, a leading Swiss eye-care centre, the ELZA Institute, and the charitable organization, the Light for Sight Foundation.

The Smartphone-Based Keratographer (SBK) is a SMART method of performing early keratoconus detection: an app, headrest and a Placido disk attachment can lower cost and bring keratoconus screening to millions of people in developing countries who currently are not screened, thanks to cost and access reasons.

The 18th CXL Experts’ Meeting, led by ELZA’s CMO, Prof. Farhad Hafezi, was held last weekend in Zurich, Switzerland.

The ELZA team of surgeons and researchers were all in attendance, and today saw Prof. Hafezi give the attending delegates a lecture on “How to treat thin corneas”, where he examined the history of performing corneal cross-linking (CXL) for the treatment of corneal ectasias like keratoconus. He then brought delegates up-to-date on the research that has been performed over the years to improve how thin corneas are cross-linked. Finally, Prof. Hafezi demonstrated the results of the latest thin cornea cross-linking protocol, sub400, developed by ELAZA, which simplifies the process, and can let surgeons, for the first time, cross-link corneas that are as thin as 200 µm.

The annual meeting of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) was held in Paris between 14–18 September 2019, and ELZA’s surgeons and researchers presented a record 21 presentations during the congress – so what did ELZA at ESCRS manage to achieve?
