Prof. Farhad Hafezi, MD, PhD, FARVO, a prominent Swiss eye surgeon and researcher, has been awarded the title of “KOL Influencer 2023” by Media Mice, the publisher of the ophthalmic trade publications CAKE and PIE. Prof. Hafezi is deeply honored to receive this prestigious title and is grateful to his peers, colleagues, and supporters for recognizing his contributions to the field of ophthalmology.
Prof. Hafezi has been internationally known for his work on corneal cross-linking (CXL) and advanced laser refractive surgery. His research group at the University of Zurich focuses on gaining a better understanding of the cornea at the molecular level, investigating corneal cell biology, and improving laser refractive surgery techniques to address complications that can arise following these procedures. He is considered a leading expert and key opinion leader in the development and translation of CXL and its multiple applications in the field of ophthalmology.
Prof. Hafezi’s research on CXL has led to numerous international awards, and he has been ranked as one of the top 100 most influential people in ophthalmology by his peers in 2014, 2016, and 2018. He has published almost 200 articles in various peer-reviewed scientific journals since 1993, including prestigious ones like Nature Medicine, Nature Genetics, IOVS, the Journal of Refractive Surgery, the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and TVST
Currently, Prof. Hafezi is a professor of ophthalmology at the University of Geneva, an adjunct clinical professor of ophthalmology at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, a research group leader of the Ocular Cell Biology Group at the Center for Applied Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine at the University of Zurich, a visiting professor at the University of Wenzhou, China, and medical director of the ELZA Institute.
