Prof. Hafezi spent last week at the 52nd annual congress of the Ophthalmological Society of South Africa (OSSA), which was held between the dates of February 28th to March 2nd, 2024, at The Boardwalk Convention Centre in Gqeberha (formerly called Port Elizabeth, also known as the “Friendly City”).
Prof. Hafezi’s OSSA schedule was a busy one. On Wednesday, February 28th, he gave several talks in the “Corneal Cross-Linking & EK Masterclass” on the topics of PACE (customized) corneal cross-linking (CXL) and Femto-CAIRS for keratoconus, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) tomography. The organising committee wrote in the congress programme of the Masterclass: “We have exciting corneal masterclasses to look forward to. Prof Hafezi from Switzerland will teach us about what is new in crosslinking and keratoconic biomechanics, with a panel discussion on the nuances of current crosslinking concepts.” Wednesday also saw Prof. Hafezi be a panel member for the Panel discussion “How do I do it, EXACTLY. Protocol?”.
On Thursday, February 29th, Prof. Hafezi gave a further two OSSA presentations: one on “Therapeutic refractive laser surgery in irregular corneas” in the Cataract & Refractive 1 session, and one on “PACK-CXL for keratitis” in the session in the SASPOS (South African Society of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus) Cornea 1 session.
Prof. Hafezi would like to thank OSSA Congress Chair, Dr. Schalk du Toit, and the entire Academic Committee for the kind invitation to present at the 52nd OSSA.
