A transPRK of more than 100 microns on without the use of any mitomycin and in the absence of clinically relevant haze is possible in middle European settings. Now let’s put this into perspective. We have now performed in Switzerland, on Swiss patients, transPRK cases up to minus 12 D in a 6.5 millimeter zone. And that’s more than 140 microns of ablation without mitomycin.

ELZA’s Medical Director, Prof. Farhad Hafezi was an invited international guest speaker at the recent 13th Congrès D’Ophthalmologique Practique (AOPA) at the Hotel Sheraton Alger in Algiers. The congress covered all of ophthalmology, but had a large cornea and refractive sessions, where Prof. Hafezi gave presentations on ELZA’s current research work. His podium presentations reviewed ELZA’s research into refractive surgery, corneal cross-linking and PACK-CXL for the treatment of corneal infection. He also celebrated his birthday while attending the congress!
One of most amazing talks was that of Dr. Anat Galor, who presented the topic “Microbiome and Dry Eye”.
This month, Brazil’s top Ophthalmology magazine, Oftalmologica Em Foco, features ELZA’s Prof. Hafezi and Dr. Torres-Netto exploring the story of how CXL at the slit lamp is becoming a reality.
